Mad Priest is on a mission to combine justice with coffee, leveraging their reach to bring awareness to global social issues.

Since 2015, Mad Priest Coffee Roasters have diligently honed their coffee roasting prowess in the micro-batch sphere. This has allowed them to expand to two locations while tending to an online storefront. However, the heart of their efforts goes deeper. Not simply selling coffee for their business gains, the Mad Priest team is boldly taking on the mantle of ethical and sustainable practices to better the world around them.

The Chattanooga-based roaster came to Whiteboard with their sights set beyond local reach. Mad Priest challenged us to leverage existing assets in a paid social campaign that would open the door to new markets.

Problem Solving

Armed with many polished brand assets, Mad Priest enlisted Whiteboard to launch their brand into new geographical markets. We achieved Mad Priest's goals while optimizing new messaging and content to maximize conversions. We did this by testing a combination of brand awareness and direct response ads to funnel relevant and high-intent traffic to the website. Here’s what we learned:

  • In Mad Priest’s case, it was more beneficial to move up the funnel with our conversion goals
  • Utilizing direct CTA’s like “Add to Cart” produced a larger volume of purchases, rather than optimizing for checkout completes

Obstacles

Mad Priest has worked tirelessly to craft a unique brand that helps them stand out in the specialty coffee world. This venture was the first plunge into performance marketing for the coffee roaster.

Our teams worked together within a more conservative budget to achieve groundbreaking results. Mad Priest’s established brand work provided a surplus of creative assets for us to leverage without going out of project scope.

The client trusted our expertise and continued to lean on our team throughout the process. Our goal is to be a flexible resource for our clients, which was also manifested in this project. This posture meant we could be a resource through audits and feedback to Mad Priest’s current platform in encouraging them towards continuous improvements.

In the end

Working with a brand from our home-base town was a true pleasure. We were thrilled that Mad Priest came to us with a very confident brand and assets to leverage. From funny and witty content to top-quality product photography, they provided a wide range of resources to test within our target market.

Our favorite result was the overwhelming response our ads with the simple Mad Priest mug received. There’s just something about that Mad Priest mug that our market liked. A coincidence, perhaps? Or, in Mad Priest’s case, maybe it was divine providence.
