A Retrospective on 2024

A few weeks ago, Taylor and I (Eric) had a phone-call with one of our dearest longstanding clients. He asked a question on how our services have evolved this year and Taylor answered him by saying, “More than any deliverable we create — our primary job is help leaders expand their visionary capacity.”

We believe “visionary capacity” is the ability to imagine, articulate, and pursue possibilities that challenge the status quo. It involves foresight, creative problem-solving, and the skill to inspire and align others toward a compelling future. It combines strategic thinking with the courage to take bold action and adapt to change, fostering innovation, and long-term impact.

In 2025, our greatest hope for you is that your visionary capacity grows for what you’re in the middle of leading or for what you’re about to start.

Hearing loss is the most common newborn developmental emergency. Despite the importance and the urgency of newborn hearing, almost 40% of babies who failed newborn hearing screenings don't get the critical help they need. Oberkotter Foundation and Whiteboard partnered together to understand the challenges and create a solution that supports babies who are born DHH (deaf or hard of hearing).

Encyclogopedia

After much ado, the retrospective book of logos by Widgets & Stone (who joined Whiteboard in 2023) are printed and this limited edition of 100 signed copies is finally available for purchase! The book is five inches by five inches with 220 pages of content and over 200 logos created during the studio’s 27 years. The forward is written by R. Michael Hendrix, former Partner & Global Design Director of IDEO.

B-Corp Recertification

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. In 2024, Whiteboard became a Certified B Corporation for the the 3rd time.

Mayday

We created and hosted Mayday, a one-day event for tired creative leaders and entrepreneurs in Chattanooga, Tennessee. More information coming soon on Mayday 2025.

Creative Mornings / Chattanooga

CreativeMornings brings together people who are driven by passion and purpose, confident that they will inspire one another, and inspire change in neighborhoods and cities around the world. Since 2016, Whiteboard has been the title sponsor for this local event that takes place on the last Friday of every month.

In Conclusion

At Whiteboard, one of our mottos is “making things that matter,” it's these same questions and ideals that we are chasing in our work and giving definition to “things that matter.” Of course, we don’t always find them. We are idealists tethered to the pragmatism of client services, after all. But we do try. The chase moves us, and it compels us to wake up each day and leave a small marker on the world that says, “I am here.”

What we make—and how we make it—has consequences for the world. We shape the world as the world shapes us. And so by poking a pin into the fabric of the universe that claims, “I am here” we are also claiming, “Things are better ‘here’ than I found them.”

We look for partners that believe the same thing. Partners that steward their resources towards goodness, that understand we are all connected, that see a world that will exist long after they are gone, and who want that world to be fuller and brighter than this one.

These are the things that move us; these are the things that matter and these things that make us feel cosmically and wonderfully small.
